Overview
A dystopian future version of Chicago is Beatrice Prior’s world where society is divided into five factions. Each one of them is dedicated to cultivating a specific virtue. There is the Candor faction which cultivates honesty, Abnegation which revolves around selflessness, Dauntless for bravery, Amity for peace and Erudite which cultivates intelligence. Every year there is an appointed day where all teens aged sixteen select the faction they want to devote all their lives to. Beatrice is torn between staying with her beloved family or breaking out and being herself and unfortunately she cannot have both. The choice that she makes surprises everyone around her including herself!

Overview
The Fault in Our Stars is John Green’s sixth novel and was published in January 2012. Hazel Grace Lancaster, a sixteen year old cancer patient narrates the story. It all starts with her parents forcing her into Literal Heart of Jesus, a support group that leads to her meeting Augustus Waters and falling madly in love with him. Augustus is an ex basketball player and an amputee. The title draws inspiration from Shakespeare’s play “Julius Caesar”, Act 1 Scene 2 where Cassius the nobleman tells Brutus “The fault dear Brutus is not in our stars but in ourselves that we are underlings”.

That was quite a different outcome from my sneaking suspicions when I got it at first – here we go, just another Young Adult book. Not the case it turns out.

Powerful magical families struggling for power, vampires hiding in plain sight and wrecking havoc in an otherwise relatively (para)normal town and amidst of it all – Cassie Scot, the ingifted sorcerers’ daughter trying to figure out life without her parents hanging over her shoulder.

Personally, I’m not very fond of love story books but this one isn’t that bad. The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening is the first The Vampire Diaries audiobook in a series and if I’m not mistaken it doesn’t follow the story from the TV show. I’ve caught glimpses of it but never actually got to watching it, but if you have you’re still going to enjoy the audiobook because it’s practically a brand new storyline with your favorite characters.

There’s no doubt – The Host is superior to the Twilight Series, probably given it is designed for adults, rather than teens, and I fall in that first category.

Quite interesting insights into a genre that hasn’t been explored much. Take Robert Heinlein’s “The Puppet Masters” or maybe ABC Televesion’s recently unsuccessful series “Invasion”, jump 3 years after some symbiotic aliens have successfully crushed Earth and many of its human population then tell a story from the point of view of a good alien introduced right into a hostile host then you have the beginning of The Host.

Brandon Sanderson is really one of the best fantasy authors. So far, each and every one of his books that I’ve read was astounding in so many ways and The Rithmatist was no exception.

When I read the blurb of this book I didn’t entirely get it to be honest. I got the book anyway simply because it’s Sanderson after all, and I don’t regret my decision whatsoever.

In a nutshell, The Rithmatists are individuals who can protect and attack by drawing creatures and bringing them to life (This should clear up any confusion about the title).
